Let’s Talk About Disney’s Newest Deluxe Resort: What Lakeshore Lodge Means for Luxury Disney Travelers

If you have followed me for any amount of time, you probably already know that I am a big believer in doing Disney a little differently.

I love the parks, but I also love the resorts. I love a slow morning with coffee, a great dinner, an afternoon by the pool, Club Level, and finding those little pockets of Disney that somehow make you forget you are in the middle of one of the busiest vacation destinations in the world.

Which is exactly why Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge has my attention.

Disney's newest resort is officially scheduled to open July 1, 2027, along the shores of Bay Lake near Magic Kingdom. Even better, we now know when reservations begin: Disney Vacation Club members can book cash reservations beginning October 6, 2026, Annual Passholders on October 7, and reservations open to everyone else on October 8, 2026.

And from everything Disney has revealed so far, this doesn't feel like just another place to stay.

It feels like Disney is creating a resort for people who actually want to spend time at their resort.

So, What Exactly Is Lakeshore Lodge?

Disney's Lakeshore Lodge is a new waterfront resort with 967 rooms situated along Bay Lake in the Magic Kingdom resort area. The overarching theme is nature, but not in the rustic, log-cabin way you might immediately associate with nearby Wilderness Lodge.

Instead, Disney is using nature as the thread connecting decades of Disney animation.

You'll find inspiration from Bambi, Pocahontas, Encanto, Fantasia and Brother Bear, incorporated through artwork, colors, landscapes and subtle design details. Disney has specifically described the resort as celebrating nature through the eyes of Disney artists and storytellers.

And I think the word subtle matters here.

For luxury Disney travelers, there is a fine line between Disney theming and feeling like you are sleeping inside a theme park attraction. The early designs for Lakeshore Lodge seem to be aiming for something more sophisticated: natural materials, earthy colors, original Disney artwork, large windows and lots of references that Disney fans will recognize without characters covering every surface.

That is exactly where I think Disney does luxury best.

The Rooms Are Where Things Get Really Interesting

There isn't just one type of room here. There are a LOT of them.

The resort will have traditional resort studios, Duo Studios, Deluxe Studios, one- and two-bedroom villas, three-bedroom Grand Villas, waterfront Lake Houses and the Hidden Willow Presidential Suite.

Different accommodations also pull inspiration from different Disney films:

  • The Resort Studios are inspired by Pocahontas, with earthy colors, landscape murals and touches like Grandmother Willow accent pillows.

  • The two-person Duo Studios take inspiration from Encanto, including colorful details and butterfly artwork.

  • The Deluxe Studios and one- and two-bedroom villas lean into the woodland world of Bambi, with warm woods, forest imagery and softer earth tones.

  • The three-bedroom Grand Villas, which sleep up to 12, are inspired by Fantasia.

But the rooms I suspect everyone is going to be talking about are the Lake Houses.

These freestanding one- and two-bedroom A-frame retreats sit right along Bay Lake and feature huge windows, private waterfront porches, full kitchens, washers and dryers and design details inspired by Brother Bear. The primary bedrooms will even have a Northern Lights-inspired lighting feature.

Think Disney's Polynesian bungalows or the cabins at Copper Creek, but with an entirely different personality.

For families who want space, privacy and a more residential luxury experience, these could become some of the most interesting accommodations at Walt Disney World.

And then there is the Hidden Willow Presidential Suite.

This two-bedroom suite sleeps up to six and includes a full kitchen, two bathrooms, washer and dryer, Bay Lake views, Magic Kingdom fireworks views and Club Level access.

So yes. I would very much like to move in.

And Yes, There Will Be Club Level

After writing about whether Disney Club Level is worth it, this might be the part of Lakeshore Lodge that interests me most.

Select Club Level rooms will have access to The Artist's Nest, a concierge lounge located above the treetops. Disney says the lounge will include complimentary refreshments, dedicated concierge service, personalized planning assistance and views toward Cinderella Castle and the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

That combination is potentially fantastic.

One of my favorite things about Club Level at Disney is having somewhere to retreat during the day. Coffee in the morning. Snacks in the afternoon. A drink before dinner. Somewhere comfortable to sit when you have had enough heat and crowds.

Add fireworks views to that?

Lakeshore Lodge could become a serious competitor to the Grand Floridian and Polynesian for travelers who want an elevated Magic Kingdom-area stay.

The Pool Situation May Be One of Disney's Best

This is another area where Lakeshore Lodge immediately stands out.

The main outdoor recreation area is called The Wetlands, and Disney is building considerably more than a standard resort pool.

There will be Lakeshore Lagoon, a zero-entry feature pool with a spiral waterslide; Daydream River, an actual lazy river winding through landscaped grounds; children's wet and dry play areas; and Cypress Point, a quieter leisure pool and whirlpool area with Magic Kingdom fireworks views.

A lazy river at a Disney Deluxe Resort is a BIG selling point for me.

Because if I am paying Deluxe Resort prices, I want to actually enjoy my resort.

This is the type of amenity that makes a non-park day feel intentional rather than like a day you "took off" from Disney.

Let's Talk About Food

Lakeshore Lodge will open with several dining and lounge options, and this is another area that feels promising for luxury travelers.

Moonglade will be the resort's waterfront table-service restaurant, featuring seasonal and locally sourced ingredients with floor-to-ceiling views of Bay Lake.

Bay Lake Provisions will serve as the more casual all-day marketplace with quick meals, specialty coffees and drinks.

Paint Out Point Bar & Grill will offer casual food and drinks overlooking the recreation area and Bay Lake.

And then there is Dandelion Terrace, which may end up being one of the resort's best nighttime spots. Disney describes it as a lounge overlooking Bay Lake with views of the Magic Kingdom fireworks and Electrical Water Pageant, surrounded by Fantasia-inspired artwork and soft lighting.

Coffee overlooking the lake in the morning, lazy river in the afternoon, cocktails and fireworks at night?

This is very much my kind of Disney day.

Location, Location, Location

Lakeshore Lodge is located on Bay Lake in the Magic Kingdom resort area, and guests will have boat transportation directly to Magic Kingdom. Buses will connect the resort with the other parks and Disney Springs.

It won't have the monorail convenience of the Grand Floridian, Polynesian or Contemporary, which is important to note.

But there is something about arriving at Magic Kingdom by boat that I absolutely love.

It is slower. It is quieter. And it feels like part of the vacation rather than simply transportation.

Guests will also receive Disney Deluxe Resort benefits, including Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Theme Park Hours.

How Will It Compare to Disney's Other Luxury Resorts?

I don't think Lakeshore Lodge replaces any of Disney's existing Deluxe Resorts. I think it fills a slightly different lane.

  • Grand Floridian is still the choice for classic Disney elegance, iconic Magic Kingdom proximity and that quintessential flagship-resort feeling.

  • Polynesian Village Resort gives you tropical escapism, monorail access and one of Disney's most beloved resort atmospheres.

  • Wilderness Lodge is probably Lakeshore Lodge's closest comparison aesthetically, but Wilderness Lodge leans into grand American National Park architecture. Lakeshore appears softer, lighter and more contemporary, with Disney animation woven throughout the nature theme.

  • Riviera Resort remains one of Disney's strongest options for travelers who prefer a polished, European-inspired aesthetic and Skyliner access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.

  • And Animal Kingdom Lodge still offers something no other Disney resort can really replicate: waking up and looking out at animals on the savanna.

Lakeshore Lodge's advantage may be that it combines pieces of several of these experiences: waterfront setting, Magic Kingdom access, sophisticated Disney design, villa-style accommodations, Club Level, serious resort recreation and enough dining and lounge space to make staying at the hotel part of your itinerary.

The Pros

For me, the biggest positives are the Bay Lake setting, direct boat access to Magic Kingdom, lazy river, Club Level lounge, waterfront dining and sheer variety of accommodations.

I also love the direction Disney seems to be taking with the design. The Disney references are there, but they appear to be incorporated through artwork and atmosphere rather than overwhelming the spaces.

And for multigenerational trips, the villas, Grand Villas and Lake Houses could be incredible.

The Potential Cons

The biggest one is obvious: price.

Disney has not yet released public pricing for general bookings, so we don't know exactly where Lakeshore Lodge will land. But with waterfront accommodations, Club Level rooms, large villas and a presidential suite, this is clearly being positioned toward the higher end of Disney's resort portfolio.

Transportation is another consideration.

Being able to boat to Magic Kingdom is wonderful, but guests visiting EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom will generally be relying on buses unless they use a paid option such as Minnie Van service.

And then there is the new-resort factor.

Opening a brand-new Disney hotel is exciting, but being among the first guests can occasionally mean encountering the little operational quirks that come with a brand-new property. Personally, that wouldn't stop me from staying there, but it is something I would discuss with a client considering an opening-week trip.

Who Is Lakeshore Lodge Really For?

This is where I think the resort becomes especially interesting.

If your Disney strategy is wake up at 6:30 a.m., rope drop, spend 14 hours in the parks and come back to the hotel purely to sleep, you may not get the full value from a resort like this.

But if you want your Disney vacation to include slow mornings, pool afternoons, good dinners, cocktails, fireworks from the resort and maybe even an entire day when you don't enter a park?

This could be one of Disney's best options.

And that is increasingly how I like to experience Disney.

Luxury at Walt Disney World isn't necessarily about marble bathrooms and white-glove service. Sometimes luxury is having enough space in your itinerary to sit beside Bay Lake with a cup of coffee and nowhere you need to be for the next two hours.

Lakeshore Lodge seems designed around exactly that idea.

My Early Take

Obviously, I need to actually stay here before I can declare anything.

But based on what Disney has shown so far, Lakeshore Lodge is very high on my list for 2027.

I love the nature-inspired design. I love that the Disney references seem thoughtful rather than overwhelming. I love the Lake Houses. I really love the idea of The Artist's Nest. And Disney had me at "lazy river."

More importantly, I think this resort represents a version of Disney that sometimes gets overlooked. Disney doesn't have to mean racing from ride to ride from sunrise until fireworks. It can mean a beautiful hotel. A great meal. A pool day. A boat ride across Bay Lake. A glass of wine while watching the fireworks. And yes, maybe a little Disney magic mixed into all of it.

Disney's Lakeshore Lodge opens July 1, 2027. Reservations open October 6 for Disney Vacation Club members, October 7 for Annual Passholders and October 8, 2026 for everyone else.

And if the finished resort lives up to what Disney has shown us so far, I have a feeling this one is going to be very popular with people who like their Disney vacations with a little extra luxury.
